Products crystallised or manufactured artificially with no ordinary natural gem counterpart, such as CZ, YAG and GGG; they may not be called natural, nor synthetic versions of a natural gem.
What this family is
Nothing in this family has an everyday counterpart occurring in nature, and that absence rules out both natural wording and synthetic-of-a-natural-gem wording. YAG and GGG may not be called natural garnet; cubic zirconia may not be called zircon, synthetic zircon or diamond.
Strontium aluminate borate is a member, as is the ruby-glass composite, which CIBJO classifies as a composite material rather than a treatment.
