Editorial policy
The rules LumaLark Wiki is written under: who is responsible, what may be published, how sources are quoted, how neutrality is kept and how errors are fixed.
Who is responsible
The LumaLark Wiki editorial team is responsible for every statement in the wiki. Each entry names its facts editor and reviewer at the top of the page, and both are introduced on the About page. Where a statement restates a standard or an organisation, that source is named beside it; where it is this site's own judgement, such as the name adopted when organisations disagree, it is labelled as the site's own.
Only what can be sourced
A statement is published only when it is tied to a registered source and to a place in that source: a clause, table, page or section. What cannot be sourced is left out or shown as pending verification; a gap is never filled with a guess. Answers in the questions sections use only facts already registered for that entry. If the sources answer a question only in part, the answer says so; if they cannot answer it, the question is not published.
Quoting and paraphrasing
Sources are reproduced only as far as their terms allow. CIBJO Blue Book wording may be quoted word for word, marked as a quotation and given with its clause number, and Chinese pages add this site's translation of its meaning. Chinese national standards (GB/T) are not reproduced: they appear in this site's own paraphrase with the clause number, and an automated check flags any page where a long passage of standard text appears word for word. Laboratory information sheets (LMHC) are quoted only in short extracts with a link to the original, and museum objects are cited from their published catalogue records.
When sources disagree
When organisations name a material differently, every wording on record here is shown side by side, and the name this site adopts is labelled as its own choice; the rules are on the page on how names are adjudicated. When two sources disagree about a fact, both are listed and the disagreement is marked, rather than one being chosen silently. Where an organisation has no position on record here, the page says so instead of implying agreement.
Neutrality
The wiki is run by the LumaLark community on the LumaLark website, which also has a jewellery shop. So the wiki follows standing rules. No entry is worded to favour a material sold in the shop. Disclosure duties are stated in full even when they are commercially inconvenient. No material is described as natural, untreated, rare or valuable unless a cited source supports it.
Healing, energy and meaning
Questions about healing or energy are answered directly: there is no scientific evidence that gem materials have healing powers, and entry pages cite guidance from the UK advertising regulators (ASA and CAP) on this point. Cultural meanings are reported as what a named community or source has said, with the source and period. Intention themes are this site's own reading of what a piece can mean to the person wearing it; they are labelled as such, kept apart from material facts and never presented as effects.
Community questions and market language
The questions on entry pages are chosen first from what people ask in the LumaLark community; public online discussions are a further source, both for questions and for the market names in use. Neither is quoted or cited as a source, and neither is ever used as evidence for a material fact; questions drawn from them are rewritten in this site's own words.
Diagrams and animations
Diagrams and animations are schematic and not to scale. Formation animations take their captions from the research record on the same page, and a transcript of every scene, with its evidence grade and sources, is printed with the animation.
The diagrams and animations made for this wiki are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, adapt and share them, including commercially, as long as you credit LumaLark Wiki and link to the page where each one appears. The license does not cover the LumaLark logo or wording quoted from other sources.
Tests of our own
Tests and measurements made by the wiki itself are marked as the site's own testing and shown separately from sourced facts, so a reader can always tell what the site measured from what a source says.
Corrections
Anyone can report a mistake by email at the address below. A report is checked against the source the page cites, or against a better source the reader supplies, and the page is corrected if it is wrong. A correction changes the page's “Last updated” date, and the revision history lists every page by the date its visible content last changed.
