Plant-derived materials

Plant-derived materials such as wood and seeds; a commercial common name cannot substitute for the botanical name.

What this family is

A trade name is never a botanical one, which is why tanmu remains an unverified wood category: not every wood sold under the Chinese term tan may be rendered sandalwood. Agarwood is the resin-impregnated heartwood of Aquilaria and Gyrinops, both Appendix II under annotation 14, whose retail exemption expressly excludes beads, prayer beads and carvings.

Jet derives from lignitic wood; vegetable ivory is tagua-palm endosperm.
