Imitation gem products

Manufactured products that imitate the appearance of another material without meeting the definition of the corresponding synthetic; imitation/simulated and the actual material must be disclosed.

What this family is

A product belongs here when it copies the look of another material yet falls short of what the corresponding synthetic requires. Both the actual material and the material imitated must be stated, and an asterisked footnote alone is not sufficient. Imitation opal may not be called synthetic or laboratory-grown opal; imitation pearl may not be called cultured.

Pressed amber is fused from fragments under heat and pressure, pressed turquoise bonded from fragments; CIBJO recommends pressed, the Chinese standard term being reconstructed.
