Tarot, Runes & Mystic Symbols

Tarot cards originated in northern Italy in the fifteenth century, initially as a card game, and the esoteric interpretation system of the Major Arcana did not take shape until the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; runes derive from the ancient Germanic alphabet system; alchemical symbols come from the experimental traditions of the early modern period. The three have different origins, yet all use images and text to carry multiple layers of meaning.
